Summer on the East Side of Moosehead Lake

Wow!  My last blog entry was about ice out in April?  Things get crazy around here once the ice does go out.  It was May 1st this year.  I know we get 7 or 8 months without ice, but there's a sense of urgency to get out and get things done.  Repairs to the house.  Wood split and put in.  And best of all, our fair weather family coming home to visit.

I've been working on the wood pile the past few weeks. Not bad for a 62 year "Old" lady, right?

I don't get why our girls, the 3 middle kids, don't like the winter in Maine any more.  Right now they live in Mississippi, California and Minnesota. They act like we live in the Arctic Circle. The boys, oldest and youngest, love winter. They ski and snowmobile. And they still live in Maine.

My Mississippi Grandchildren.  We go to the school summer lunch program once a year just to see Mama's old school.

So summer is a treat. When the kids come home to visit they need their fix of soft serve with jimmies at the Dairy Bar.  A dagwood from Jamo's.  Lobster rolls, donut holes and funny bones.  Then back to their healthy meals at home.

Lobster roll from Meme's Crab Shack, downtown Greenville.

There are new chairs & benches downtown Greenville, plus crafters' cottages and toilet.

This year we took a picnic to the Lily Bay State Park Beach.  I love that spot, and usually it's some of the warmest water for swimming in Moosehead.  They've filled the bog hole where the kids always caught frogs, and put up a new play ground.  A very pleasant afternoon was had by all, even Grumpy, I mean Grampy.

We sell these mini signs at Moosehead Marketplace, >>WOODEN SIGNS

I've been up by Kokadjo several times this summer, "going for a ride" and exploring is always relaxing.  My grandparents lived there about 80 years ago when they were first married.  Hasn't changed much, a few buildings gone, but the one they lived in is still there.  There is a new sign though.

Moosehead Marketplace is doing great.  Every month is a little busier, and I'm hoping for a super Christmas season.  Right now we're selling mostly "thank you" crates, whichever ones appeal to the buyer with a Thank You card enclosed.  Thanking their friends for hospitality, dog sitting and house watching.  These new moose canvas bags are also popular, sewn by Bonnie Erkkinen, who makes boat tops here in Greenville.

So, I hope you're loving your summer as much as we are!  Until next time, Janet
